Once again, Nature London’s Pete Read is the compiler for London’s Christmas Bird Count (CBC). He submits the data to the Audubon Organization which has been running the CBCs since 1900. The London CBC has been running since 1909.
Birds Canada monitors the CBCs run in Canada. There is more information on their website.
Participants can count birds at their feeders officially if they are inside the London CBC count circle. The map of the London count circle is here.
Participants can also take part in a walking or driving field route. Many routes have been established for a long time, but new participants can be added to those if they are accepting new members, or to a new route if it can be created in an area not already covered.
It is an all-day count, but participants can spend as much time as is needed to complete a route, or as desired if watching feeders.
Since this is an official count, new participants must get in touch with the compiler to register their feeders or to join a route.
