Loop around Gibbons Park. First, we will walk along the river then back through the meadow so we should get a good variety of bird species. We will be walking on the TVTA trail which could be muddy so proper hiking boots are required. There are no hills but you may be required to scramble over some fallen trees. Bring walking polls if you require them.
We will end the hike off to observe the great horned owl that is nesting at Gibbons Park.
Birds we’ve seen in the area:
Mergansers, (common/hooded), Bufflehead, Goldeneye – These were common all winter but may have moved on.
Swan (I saw one last year at this time)
Robbins, Red-winged Blackbirds, Chickadees, Kinglets, Blue Jans, Cardinals, Sparrows (assorted), Finch, Carolina Wren, Tufted Titmouse,Cedar Waxwing
Woodpeckers (Downy, Hairy, Red-Bellied), Nuthatch, Creeper, Flicker
King Fisher
Birds of Prey (Hawks and Eagles)
Beaver (One is living in the area)
Deer
Canadian Geese (if we’re lucky) 😉
Owl (She has been on the nest since February 28)
Directions: We will meet at the Grovesner street parking lot just south of the play area.
