We will explore the trails off Western Counties Road and look for spring migrants and resident birds. These trails often have muddy and slippery sections with some inclines so please wear appropriate footwear.

May and Trilliums go together. Time to explore this beautiful little area known for its variety and abundance of trilliums. It is not a long trail, reasonably level, hard packed (unless we have had lots of rain). We will walk once in each direction as it is a loop trail.

Explore Kelly Stanton ESA and see what birds are to be found. We will check out the storm water pond then venture onto the trails in the tallgrass prairie and wooded areas. There could be muddy or slippery sections, waterproof footwear with good traction, long pants and bug spray for tick prevention are recommended.

Explore the many habitats of the Cade Tract, a relatively new public tract located west of St. Marys, owned by the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority. This former farm was donated to the UTRCA by Barnby Cade and restoration efforts are ongoing. We'll view a coolwater stream, a fen-like habitat, a young prairie, a thicket, meadow and mature woodlot. We'll focus on identifying plants but also watch for birds. There are no managed trails and the vegetation can be thick, so long pants and hiking boots or rubber boots are advised. We we'll cross a creek as well.

The Coldstream Conservation Area has two trails – the trail in the south end of the Conservation Area takes you through a cedar swamp, a rare experience in Southwestern Ontario. The trail north of Coldstream Road is a wonderful place for spring wildflowers and birds
Hard packed trail, some boardwalk. We will check out the main trail/cedar swamp for wildflowers and depending on recent rainfall, creek may have some activity in as well.
Check out reservoir for ducks etc. and the newly constructed bridge

(Members Only) Bruce Birding Weekend

This trip will run over the long weekend until Monday afternoon. We will visit various sites on the Bruce Peninsula to look for spring migrants. Weather permitting, evening and before breakfast walks will be offered. Participants will need to get their own accommodations in the Tobermory area. Breakfast will be available at the leader's cottage on Saturday and Sunday morning. On Monday morning, we will eat at the Princess Hotel. As we will be in the field, we usually picnic for lunches Saturday to Monday. Those who wish to participate will be asked to contribute to the meals. Dinners will be at local restaurants. Birding at the Coves, SLOW, EASY and SHORT WALK (Members Only)

A SLOW, EASY and SHORT walk around the one pond off the Germany Canadian Club parking lot. We will only be going around this pond. The aim is for an inclusive hike open to those who want to go at a slower than average pace and to take our time. Binoculars or camera is recommended. Birds typically found here include: robins, sparrows, goldfinches, downy and red bellied wood peckers, nuthatches, great blue herons, mallards, wood ducks, chickadees, cardinals, red-tailed hawk and turkey vultures.
